Educational Support Programme
The Programme is a unique, flexible and proactive training initiative that focuses on the present abilities of the student. Using an in-house initial assessment, we are able to identify where the student needs help.
The Programme covers a variety of subjects which engages our students’ in open debate that in our experience develops mutual respect and effective communication skills which gives each student the forum to express their personal opinion on topical subjects. Examples of subjects are listed below:
- Health and safety laws
- Social behaviour (anti-social behaviour)
- Anger management strategies
- Criminal justice system
- Study skills
- Educational visits
- Team building
- Effective communication
- Listening skills
- Build self-confidence/self-esteem
- Improve literacy and numeracy
One of the main priorities for ESP is to monitor the attendance of students’ to the Programme on a daily basis. The record of attendance will be sent to the respective school at the end of each week by email or fax. All students’ with 100% attendance for the term will be awarded vouchers (sports or phone vouches) under the ESP incentive awards scheme.
In our experience, a small minority of students’ may not attend our programme on a regular basis because of a habit of constant truancy from their school experience. ESP will remind their parents by letter of their responsibility to ensure that the young person attends our programme on time, every day.
Incentive awards will also be given to students who demonstrate good team work, good behaviour and self-control and overall effort in developing their numeracy and literacy skills.
Reviews
An internal review process will be carried out every half-term and end of term. Reviews will be organised by ESP and all subsequent external reviews will be arranged with the agreement of all parties.
The referring body will be invited along with parents and other appropriate individuals that wish to attend the review. The review will be carried out in an informal manner - it will be an honest and accurate progress report. There will be time for the student to respond to any points that they are not happy with and their concerns will be taken on-board.
The last review prior to the student leaving the programme will concentrate on the student’s progression plan and the next step in the student’s education plan. If requested, introductions will be made to relevant courses outside the organisation as part of the progression plan.
Outcomes and Duration
Students’ can participate in this programme until they leave school in year 11. This is not always the case. Students may be re-engaged back into the school system, others may wish to stay on at the centre. With this in mind, we run this programme for one academic year and if the student wishes to reapply they may do so.
All students will be expected to take some responsibility for working towards their aims and objectives.
This responsibility will involve attendance, punctuality, participation and some level of dedication to doing the task set out for the day.
Costing Information
The cost is based on one student per day of £52.50 per day, per term. Alternatively, three students or more will be discounted down to £42.50 per day, per student, for the term.
Payment is non-refundable, however referrers may submit a new student as a replacement for the weeks remaining.
Additional charges may be incurred for additional services.
